Transcentral Highway Is A Hidden Gem of
Cebu Island

By John Xtian

Cebu Transcentral Highway is a hidden gem of the Cebu Island (not quite)

Cebu as an island has a lot to offer to locals and tourists alike, Cebu Transcentral Highway is one of them.

If you wanted to go to the mountains, it is never that far and if you wanted to go to the beaches, it is never that far either.

I have always been living near the sea ever since I was a child, and when I got into high school, we go to the beaches like almost every 3 weeks to a month.

So, when someone invites me to go the beach, I never get that excited any more.

But I still go to the beaches, don’t get me wrong.

However, it becomes a different story if we talk about mountains.

Mountains, on the other hand, is a place I always would be very willing to visit any time of every single day.

The Transcentral Highway of Cebu perfectly fits this picture. I place I will be willing to visit any time of every single day.

About The Cebu Transcentral Highway

The Cebu Transcentral Highway connects Cebu City to the town of Balamban, Cebu.

It offers an alternative route of going to Cebu City for those who are living in the western side of Cebu.

This is the best alternative of the Naga-Uling Highway, Manipis Road and the Tabuelan-Borbon Road.

It’s the feeling!

Majestic views, serene and has that provincial vibe.

I have always heard about the Cebu Transcentral Highway but did not actually use the highway until I started working.

I was hooked the first time I passed by there.

It is like getting transported to a different place. You won’t think you are in Cebu.

Twisties in Cebu Transcentral Highway

Well, there’s quite a lot of it.

In fact groups upon groups of people would go up to these mountains just to see the views.

Especially motorcycle riders.

I don’t test the power of my bike when I go there, but to see the beautiful scenery.

In fact a lot of motorcycle clubs would spend a day of their weekend there.

Twisties are their favorites.

Also because it’s the one place they get to test a part of the real power of their bikes.

Tourist Spots

Cebu has experienced a lot of developments over the years.

The good thing is that this did not get happen in the city proper itself. It spread across.

The mountain part of Cebu has likewise shared the same improvements. Although the market of these destinations is rather targeted, a lot of people would still visit the spots up in the mountains.

Celosia flowers are very much abundant in the Sirao Garden.

Visitors flock from in and outside of Cebu island.

This garden is by far the most flocked to tourist spot in this part of the mountains.

What about me, though?

Well, the first thing that crosses my mind, before most especially, was SWEETCORN! When you start talking about Cebu Transcentral Highway, this will always equate to SWEETCORN.

Anybody who frequents the Transcentral Highway never misses on the sweetcorn stop.

It’s like a roadside “market” where fruits and vegetables are sold. And the highlight of the stuff that’s being sold is the SWEETCORN.

Then it changed.

The Fog

When I started taking my hobby a little seriously, I was always on the search and hunt for a fog to get that mysterious, moody feel of a picture.

There’s not a better place that is within proximity than the Cebu Transcentral Highway.

However, the fog is rather elusive. Most especially during summer.

This changes during the rainy season, though; the time when the fog is the one who comes hunting.

The moody feeling is very much tangible in the Transcentral Highway when it rains.

Sunsets is to die for!

There are a lot of places in the Transcentral Highway that you can stop by and use as a “viewing deck”

It’s one of the best places to view sunsets.
