For My Wife

By John Xtian

Love is Everything

The capacity of a human person to dedicate his lifetime to someone he loves remains an astounding mystery since the beginning of time. Generations one after the other, it remains the same.

Some say that it is companionship, that one longs to be with another. But, the heart argues: love is not just about companionship; although, not shallow, love still goes beyond companionship, belongingness.

Love is a topic that is on the dwelling of the divine; yet, still known and familiar and felt by us.

Our relationship is far from perfect; but, it is never easily broken. The imperfection is what makes it beautiful. For despite that, we still make it work, find beauty in it and it’s the most beautiful of all the beauties.

A Love Long Ago

Thirteen years of being together is never a joke, not an easy feat. However, it was not all about laughter and smiles; aches, pain and tears are a part of tihs relationship. If it is all about companionship, would one still stay when pain is starting to get experienced?

It is love. Love, as cliche as it may sound, transcends all things. Love hurts, but more than anything, love heals and comforts. Happiness abounds where love is present.

My love with chinita eyes

Love comes in all forms. Mine is in the form of a child-like girl with chinky eyes, talks like a child. She is the human representation of love.

I am the most imperfect of all human beings, I lack a lot of things within myself and even outside of myself. Underserving of all the good things in the world. I did a lot of bad, unspeakable things.

But, despite all that, I am loved.

Then I knew a different kind of love. A love that commits, protects, a love that reciprocates and gives back and shows something greater.

Looking back, I always knew that she is it, she is the one that I will spend the rest of my life with.

However, it wasn’t instant. It started ever so slowly, leaving me unparticipating and somewhat left on the sidelines observing how things unfold.

But, as time goes by, it gives off a very strong sense of wanting and needing the object of your love for yourself.

The feeling of wanting to be with her. It is a point of being selfish and generous at the same time.

Selfish for wanting her all of myself. Generous for giving myself the chance to love and be loved in return. Love that is in its highest and purest form.

Then it hit me real hard, that spending my life without her with me is like spending the rest of my life on this earth without purpose.

I finally understand when they say that LOVE IS A DECISION.

So, I decided. And here we are, spending our first anniversary together as husband and wife, a married couple, bound to each other for life, connected by love.

Yes, we are still a young couple who still has a lot of trials to go through. Tribulations that will test our faith to each other, shaking the very foundations of our self.

But, despite all these, we know that love never fails. St. Paul testified to this in his first letter to the Corinthians (1 Corinthians 13 verse 8). And our family is always there for us.

However, it is not all about us, it is not because of us. It is God, who is in the center of all these, makes things work for us.
